Messy Mosaic

A pattern of figures is made from square blocks. Here are the first four figures of the pattern:

Figure 1 has one column that is one block high followed by one column that is three blocks high. Figure 2 has one column that is one block high followed by two columns that are each three blocks high. Figure 3 has one column that is one block high followed by three columns that are each three blocks high. Figure 4 has one column that is one block high followed by four columns that are each three blocks high.

  1. Describe a pattern rule for the pattern.

  2. Using your pattern rule from part (a), what would Figure \(10\) be in the pattern?

  3. Using your pattern rule from part (a), how many blocks are in Figure \(100\)?
