EFGH Marking

Students and Teachers at events

The Euclid and Fryer, Galois and Hypatia (EFGH) contests are written in April by students from all over the world. These contests provide students the opportunity to write full-solution answers, which helps students think more critically about the problems and effectively communicate their solutions. To help mark these contests, the CEMC invites current and retired math educators to the University of Waterloo each year.

Marking these contests is one of the most important aspects of our contest processing and it provides markers with the opportunity to grade student work from across the world, allowing them to be exposed to a variety of different approaches. This annual event allows markers to interact with others in the math education community from across Canada and participate in valuable professional development.

Intended Audience

The CEMC invites active educators from across Canada, retired educators from Ontario, and graduate students at the University of Waterloo to volunteer to participate.

Dates and Location

EFGH Marking will be held from Wednesday, April 24, 2024 to Friday, April 26, 2024 at the University of Waterloo.

The vast majority of marking happens in person at the University of Waterloo, with a select group of remote markers assisting.

Other Information

Marking is a volunteer activity. The CEMC does provide funding to support travel expenses and provides accommodations and meals for markers who come to Waterloo to participate.

If you would like to volunteer to participate as a marker, please contact Vanja Malinovic
